TO FLY AND DESIGN WITH A TAIL

Get a tail or make it yourself.

This tail must be cellular so that it can inflate and open at both ends to let the wind through. It should be about 20m long, even if your kite is small. The more colourful the tail and the more your drag will seem to come out of a show.

Tie the tail to that of your kite, possibly by making a hole in the dacron (black material sewn at the end of the kite). You can also tie a tail to each wing tip or tie a long veil.

Flying with a central tail is more accurate and makes it easier to do figures. Your flying must be rather sharp.

The figures above were done with a made-to-size child's kite. Various plans are available on the internet. Possibly change its size so that it is 1m on the leading edge. Use 3 or 4mm solid carbon fiber spars for the frame and 1 to 2mm rods for the whiskers. Use icarex for the sail which should be light. Make or purchase indoor type lines, even for strong wind. The kite will pull a bit when the wind rises and fly when the wind is light.
