TO ASSESS THE WIND : THE WIND WINDOW
The kites fly in a half-circle against the wind. This half-circle is bigger or smaller depending on the length of the lines. It is called the 'wind window".

You will be launching in its centre.

The kite will stop by itself at the top of the window.

You can rest by bringing the kite on the edge in the stop area in a position parallel to the ground

In order to keep a constant speed, move forward in the speeding-up area and move backward in the slowing-down area.

You will be landing on the periphery of the half-circle. In light wind, it will land there nearly by itself, especially if you are going forward simultaneously. For a stronger wind, it will be necessary to actually learn to land.

It is better to use long lines (20m for small kites and 30 to 40 m for the big ones) in order to be able to manoeuvre better in the beginning.

Always use long lines in strong wind. In light wind, lines 10 to 15m long will no longer respond.

Contrary to common belief, kites do not fly more easily with short lines. They do however crash a lot quicker due to the short distance to the ground and due to their bigger briskness.
